UTD Trio Named To All-Region Squad
The University of Texas at Dallas baseball team had three players selected for the 2006 American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA) NCAA Division III All-West Region Team.
Second baseman Brett Rosen and outfielder/designated hitter Nick Bird (pictured at right) were named second-team selections at their position while outfielder Trent Elizondo (pictured below) was a third-team selection.
A total of 50 players from the NCAA West Region, which includes both Texas and California, were chosen for the three different teams. The first team included 11 position players with four pitchers while the second team had 17 players, and the third team had 18. American Southwest Conference champion Texas Lutheran University, which defeated UTD in the championship game, had four selections while ASC members McMurry, Hardin-Simmons, Mississippi College and Austin College each had two selections apiece.
Rosen and Bird were both newcomers to the UTD program in 2006. Rosen, a junior from Plano, led the Comets (33-14) in hitting with a .391 average and 44 RBI. Bird, a senior from Dallas, hit .318 with 11 home runs and 53 RBI. Elizondo, a junior from The Woodlands, hit .333 with 41 RBI. He was a first-team selection last season.
