UTD Offense Comes Alive vs. Schreiner
As Comets Close In On #1 Seed
Comets Still On Top in ASC With Just Two Games Remaining
RICHARDSON, TX – Seniors Ali Morshedi and Petar Tomov celebrated their final regular season home game with a pair of goals each as UTD ran past Schreiner University, 7-1, Sunday afternoon at UTD Field.
The Comets (11-4-2) ran their conference mark to 9-0-2 with just two games remaining, and continued solidifying their host position for the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament Nov. 5-7 as the regular season top seed. UTD needs just one win in its final two regular season games next weekend to clinch the top seed.
Tomov scored the first goal of the game just 10:59 into the match on a feed from Morshedi. Morshedit then got his first goal on a breakaway at the 18:32 mark on an assist from Rory Rahn. Tomov then put in a a shot just two minutes later off a rebound on a corner kick. Samire Chaouche and Shayne Rutherford made it 5-0 before Schreiner picked up a breakaway goal from Celistino Albarran.
But UTD answered with another Morshedi goal off a deflection; then senior Joey Martinez got to show off in front of his parents with a header off a corner kick for the final goal of the game.
UTD played ball control the entire match, and outshot the quick Schreiner team, 24-6.
