Secondd-Half HPU Run Spoils Upset Bid

BROWNWOOD, TX - The University of Texas at Dallas women's basketball team wasted a career night from guard Gigi Graugnard as the Comets allowed a 20-7 second-half run to turn a close game into a rout for the Howard Payne LadyJackets.

UTD (5-5, 4-3) had made a significant bid to upset the 10-1, 7-1 HPU team behind the suddenly hot Graugnard, who nailed five 3-point shots on the night and finished with 16 points.

The Comets had the score tied at 35-35 with 14:36 remaining in the game, but the LadyJackets went on their big run and were up 55-42 just seven minutes later. The Comets could not get any closer than 13 points the rest of the game.

UTD shot 53.7 percent from the field, but connected on just 5-of-16 free throw attempts. Cassi Little had another good game, pitching in 13 points with 5 rebounds while Dani Barnett added 10 points and 6 boards. Still it was not enough to offset the combined 48-point, 15-rebound night of HPU's duo of Stacey Blalock and Meia Daniels.
