UTD Holds Off Sul Ross' Upset Bid
UTD 64, SRSU 59

ALPINE, TX - It's been quite a while since the University of Texas at Dallas women's basketball team played in a game it was "expected" to win; but it took a solid effort Saturday afternoon for the Comets to hold on in just such a game before claiming a 64-59 win over winless Sul Ross State.

Dani Barnett and Cassi Little (right) combined for 27 points and 23 rebounds to lead UTD back above the .500 mark at 6-5 overall and improve to 5-3 in American Southwest Conference play with ASC East Division action set to start next weekend. On the two-game road swing, Barnett and Little each had 25 points and 17 rebounds. The pair each scored a double-double on Saturday with Barnett picking up 15 points and 11 rebounds while Little had 12 of each.

In spite of a game that might have been closer than it should have been, the Comets never trailed. UTD forced SRSU (0-12, 0-9) into 27 turnovers and survived a 32.4 percent shooting day. UTD had its biggest lead at nine points (58-49) with just 1:50 left in the game before the Lady Lobos went on a desperation 10-point spree in the final seconds.

At this point last season, UTD was 3-9 on its way to a 7-18 finish. UTD entered the weekend in third place in the ASC East Division, a finish that could earn the Comets their first-ever berth in the ASC Championship Tournament if they can maintain their position the rest of the season.
