Comets Make It Two Straight
With Road Win at Schreiner
UTD 87, Schreiner 69
KERRVILLE, TX - The University of Texas at Dallas women's basketball team evened its American Southwest Conference record at 2-2 by taking their second win of the season in as many nights Wednesday. The Comets topped Schreiner University, 87-69, to win their second straight.
Dani Barnett (pictured) was one of three Comets to finish in double figures as UTD shot an impressive 54 percent from the field. Barnett topped the lineup with 20 points while Kia Jones had a big night with 18. Jennifer Longoria hit a pair of three-pointers on her way to a 12-point night.
But it was probably the Comet defense that played the biggest role in the win. UTD forced the much-improved Schreiner team into 31 turnovers and recorded 20 steals.
The game actually started out fairly even, with SU holding an 18-17 lead at the 12:04 mark of the first half. Over the next five minutes, however, the Comets went on a 20-4 run to give themselves plenty of cushion with a 37-22 advantage. UTD led 44-31 at the half.
The Mountaineers (1-5, 1-4) put together a bit of a run at the beginning of the second half, and had cut the Comets' lead to seven (52-45) with 12:57 remaining in the game. UTD responded to the challenge by finishing the contest, outscoring SU, 35-24, in the final 13 minutes to claim the 18-point win.
UTD travels to UT-Tyler for a divisional ASC matchup on Saturday afternoon.
