Comets Win First Tournament Since '03
TEMPLE, TX - The UTD men's golf team won its first tournament since its 2002-03 championship season by taking first place at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational Tuesday. UTD shot a team-best 293 on the final day of the tournament to hold off 15 teams with a 36-hole total of 593. Patrick Nolin, a junior from LaPorte, TX, finished second in the medalist race by one stroke with a 73-70-143 while Jesse Forsong and Brent Marshall also finished in the Top 10. Forsong shot a two-round total of 146 to tie for third while Marshall had a 150, tying for ninth. UTD had been in second place after the first day of the tournament with a 300, trailing Texas-Brownsville by five strokes. But UTB slipped to a 304 on the final day to finish third. American Southwest Conference foe and tournament host Mary Hardin-Baylor finshed fourth at 611 while conference members Hardin-Simmons, Schreiner and Concordia finished back in the pack. The final score could have been even better for the Comets as both Brian Vaughn and Ryan Siddique, who had been UTD's top finishers at tournaments earlier this fall, had the team's only rounds in the 80s.
