UTD Sending All Three Teams To Compete
For ASC Fall Championships, NCAA Bids

Comets Will Compete In Men's & Women's Soccer, Volleyball Nov. 3-5

mugThe University of Texas at Dallas will be well- represented when the American Southwest Conference competes to crown conference champions in three fall sports.

UTD will have representatives in men's soccer, women's soccer and volleyball competing in the ASC Championship Tournaments, set for this weekend (Nov. 3-5). The winners of all three tournaments will earn the conference's automatic berths into the NCAA Division III national playoffs in their respective sports.

This will be the fifth straight post-season appearance for both the men's and women's soccer teams; and the third straight tournament appearance for volleyball.

The ASC men's soccer tournament will be hosted by Schreiner University in Kerrville. The women's soccer teams will play at Hardin-Simmons University in Abilene; and the volleyball tournament will be hosted by Texas Lutheran University in Seguin.

The Comets' men's soccer team opens the post-season play Friday morning at 11 am in Kerrville. UTD (12-6-0) will enter the tournament as the No. 5 seed and face No. 4 seed Mississippi College (13-4-2) in a quarterfinal matchup. The winner will meet top-seeded host Schreiner (12-4-1) in a semifinal match on Saturday at 11 am.

In the other bracket, No. 3 seed Hardin-Simmons (12-5-0) meets No. 4 Mary Hardin-Baylor (10-8-1) in the other quarterfinal, with the winner meeting No. 2 seed University of the Ozarks (13-5-1) in a semifinal match at 2 pm Saturday. The championship is set for 1 pm Sunday. (MEN'S SOCCER BRACKET)

The UTD volleyball team, just in its third season of competition, is already one of the teams to beat as the ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament gets underway Friday in Seguin. The Comets enter the tournament with the best overall record in the ASC (22-5), but are the No. 2 seed out of the East Division after losing twice to East Texas Baptist.

UTD will open the tournament against Sul Ross State (14-17), the No. 3 team from the West Division at 2:30 pm Friday. A win in the opening round would put the Comets in a semifinal showdown against the host TLU team (18-10) at 7:30 pm Friday night. Hardin-Simmons (16-14) and Mary Hardin-Baylor (9-21) will play the other opening round match at 12 pm Friday with the winner meeting ETBU (19-11) at 5 pm.

The championship match is set for 5 pm on Saturday. (VOLLEYBALL BRACKET)

UTD's women's soccer team is riding a seven-game shutout streak (and has not lost in its last 13 games) as the No. 2 seed in the Women's Soccer Championship Tournament, hosted by nationally-ranked Hardin Simmons. The Comets (13-3-2), who were the only ASC team to do anything but lose to HSU (the Comets and Cowgirls tied, 2-2) during the regular season, have met HSU in the last two ASC title games.

UTD will have a first-round bye in the 2006 tournament and meet the winner of East Texas Baptist (11-6-2-) and Texas Lutheran (13-5-0) in a semifinal match on Saturday at 2 pm. Top-seeded HSU (15-0-3) faces the winner of a Mississippi College (13-5-0)/LeTourneau (10-7-2) matchup at 11 am Saturday. The title will be determined at 1 pm on Sunday. (WOMEN'S SOCCER BRACKET)
