Baker, Lowery Voted Academic All-District

Top UTD Basketball Players Also Among Region's Best In Classroom

mugmugRICHARDSON, TX - Two of the top University of Texas at Dallas basketball players have been selected as members of the prestigious CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America)/ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District team - the precursor to the national Academic All-America® award.

Senior Ericka Baker and junior Ernie Lowery – both among the top players on the Comets women's and men's basketball teams – were selected from a field of over 30 College Division candidates in CoSIDA's District 6, which includes NCAA Division II/III and NAIA universities in Texas, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Mississippi. Only five players are selected for each of a first , second and third team in each district by the vote of CoSIDA members in the district.

Baker was selected as one of the five first-team All-District honorees out of District 6 and will advance to the ballot for the prestigious Academic All-America® team. Lowery was selected as a District 6 College Division second-team member, finishing in the top 10 in the district.

Baker, a senior from Copperas Cove, TX, is a team captain and among the statistical leaders for the 11-9 UTD women's basketball team, averaging 12.6 points and a team-best 5.9 rebounds per game. A psychology major in her third year with the teaem, she has maintained a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 3.70.

Lowery, a junior from Houston, TX, is also among the top players on the 14-6 UTD men's basketball team. He leads the team with a 13.9-point per game average and 48 assists through the first 20 games. Lowery is an accounting and information management major and has a cumulative GPA of 3.78.

To be nominated for the honor, student-athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.2 in their academic pursuits, as well as be significant contributors to their team athletically.
