Comets Get Six On ASC All-Division Squads

Cox, Two Newcomers Earn Second-Team East Division Honors

The UTD baseball team's senior pitching ace Mark Cox and newcomers Chris Biguenet and Jared Smith (pictured below, L-R) were named second-team selections for the American Southwest Conference All-East Division teams announced this week.

UTD, which did not have a first-team selection after slipping out of the post-season picture this season, also had three players named to the East Division Honorable Mention squad - senior outfielder Chase Whitehead, freshman shortstop Garet Norton and relief pitcher Adam Spinn (pictured below, L-R).

Cox, who is already in the MBA program at UTD, finished his career with a 9-2 season and a 3.44 ERA this season. In the last two years, the Coldspring, Texas product struck out 164 opposing batters on his way to a 22 wins. This season, he threw the first no-hitter in UTD history in a game against Howard Payne, and was chosen the UTD Student-Athlete of the Year at last week's UTD Athletic Awards Banquet.

Biguenet, a Plano HS graduated who transferred to UTD after two years at Erskine College in South Carolina, finished the season hitting .333 with 13 doubles and 8 homeruns, driving in 44 runs.

Smith, a Tyler JC transfer from New Caney, TX, was UTD's top offensive threat. He hit .345 with 28 extra base hits, including 13 doubles and 13 home runs, and drove in 47 runs.

Whitehead, a senior from Montgomery, TX, led the Comets with a .349 batting average and had 7 stolen bases. Norton, a freshman from Conroe, TX, stepped into the starting shortstop position and hit .316 on the year. Spinn, a sophomore from Holland, TX, became UTD's top option out of the bullpen, compiling a 3.86 ERA in 12 appearances.
