Comets Overpower AC in Home Opener
UTD Bench Runs Away From Kangaroos In 71-55 Vict ory
RICHARDSON, TX - The UTD men's basketball team took control with their first bucket of the game - a three-pointer from Ernie Lowery (pictured) – and raced away to 71-55 win over Austin College in their 2007-08 home opener Tuesday night.
The Comets (2-1) ran 15 players out onto the floor in their final tuneup before opening American Southwest Conference play this weekend on the road at Schreiner and Texas Lutheran Universities. Lowery was one of just three Comets to finish in double-figure scoring, but he added 19 points, becoming the third different Comet to lead the team in scoring during their first three games of the season.
Freshman Jimmy Witten contributed eight rebounds to a defensive effort that saw the Comets take a 47-25 advantage on the boards.
UTD wasted little time turning on the jets in this one, building a 14-2 lead just 3:29 into the game. At halftime, the Comets had a comfortable 42-27 lead. Andy Maish went inside with 64:39 left in the game to give UTD its biggest lead at 27 points (69-42) before both teams began emptying the benches. BOXSCORE
