Semifinals at ASC Championships
No. 1 Singles Match Goes Distance To Give Comets 5-4 Win
TYLER, TX - Freshman Eric Debusschere edged McMurry's Bryan Rainwater in the No. 1 singles match in three sets to give the UTD men's tennis team a quarterfinal win over McMurry in the opening day of the American Southwest Conference Team Championship Tournament at UT-Tyler's Summers Tennis Center.
The Comets actually had to win the final three matches of the day to force a 4-4 tie going into the completion of the No.1 singles match. Debusschere won the pivotal match, 2-6, 6-4, 6-4. Debusschere and Nick Clifford had teamed to give UTD its only doubles win. Clifford got UTD's first singles win in the No. 2 slot to knot the score, but McMurry had moved ahead 4-2 before No. 3 Donald Kasitinon and No. 6 Derek Decoste won their singles matches in nailbiters.
UTD advances to meet tournament host and East Division No. 1 seed UT-Tyler at 10 am Saturday in a semifinal match.
