UTD Handles LETU In Three To Again Tie Up Race With Two Left

RICHARDSON , TX - The UTD volleyball team kept pace with American Southwest Conference East Division rival East Texas Baptist by handling LeTourneau Tuesday night, 30-23, 30-21, 30-13 in its final regular season home game of the year.

Kyleigh Irish (pictured) led the Comets with 11 kills. The victory pulls UTD (19-9 overall) even with ETBU at 13-2 in conference, setting up a showdown at 7 pm Friday night in Longview for the likely division title and right to host the post-season ASC Championship Tournament November 2-3.

UTD lost a close match to ETBU earlier this season in five games, but ETBU lost a pair of games to West Division teams in the ASC Crossover Tournaments to allow UTD to catch up in the standings (CLICK HERE to see ASC standings.)

Even with a win, the Comets would need to win again on Saturday on the road at Mississippi College. ETBU finishes up its regular season hosting Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday.

In the Tuesday match with LeTourneau (5-23, 1-15), the Comets survived 10 service errors by putting together a .258 attack percentage with 45 kills. UTD also recorded 13 service aces, including four from Candice Christian and Stephanie Waller.
