Wetz, Four Others Earn ASC East Honors
Freshman Hitter UTD's Fourth Straight ASC East Newcomer of the Year
RICHARDSON, TX - UTD freshman outside hitter Amber Wetz, who led the Comets in kills with 3.42 per game, was named the American Southwest Conference East Division Newcomer of the Year as the ASC announced its 2007 All-Conference Teams.
Wetz (pictured at right), a freshman from San Antonio Madison HS, was one of three Comets named to the ASC East Division first team. Two others earned second-team recognition.
UTD Coach Marci Sanders, who guided her young team to its first ever outright East Division championship with a 21-10 record, was named the East Division Coach of the Year.
Wetz became UTD's fourth consecutive ASC East Division Newcomer of the Year award winner, following former players Brittany Fowler, Jessica Harpham and teammate Kyleigh Irish. The UTD volleyball program, which was formed just four years ago, has had a freshman player win the award each season.
Earning first-team All-East Division recognition along with Wetz were sophomore outside hitter Kyleigh Irish and middle blocker Patricia Allen, both from San Antonio. Sophomore libero Kathryn Adams of Houston and freshman outside hitter Stephanie Waller from Wylie were recognized as second-team selections.
