UTD Ties Best Start Ever With Narrow Win
Sluggish Comets Still Able To Hold Off AC In First Game After Break
SHERMAN, TX - The UTD women's basketball team looked like a team that had been off the court for 10 days Thursday night, but were still able to hold off Austin College, 50-43. The win improved UTD's recrord to 5-1 - tying the best start in program history.
UTD shot only 31 percent from the floor, hitting just 22 of 71 shots; but were able to handle the Lady 'Roos (1-7) by limiting AC's shooters to just 30.5 percent shooting and forcing 25 AC turnovers.
Senior Ericka Baker (pictured) paced the Comet attack with 17 points while Chelsea Edwards added 10. Center Rachel Addison also had a big night, collecting six points and eight rebounds. Reserve Kelly Canady pitched in seven points at a team-high nine rebounds.
After holding a narrow 22-21 halftime lead after trailing a couple of times in the first half, UTD started to put a little distance between themselves and the Lady 'Roos. Edwards came up with a steal and layup at the 12:26 mark that put UTD up by 10 (36-26). A Baker inside play gave UTD its largest lead at 13 (48-35) with 4:20 remaining. BOXSCORE
