Comets Roll Over Concordia In ASC Opener

UTD Stays Unbeaten In ASC With 0-0 Tie Against UT-Tyler

mugmugRICHARDSON, TX - The UTD women's soccer team picked up only its second win of the season, but did it in a flourish, rolling over visiting Concordia University of Texas, 8-0, with a six-goal second half in the ASC opener for both teams.

UTD (2-3-2, 1-0-1) then fought UT-Tyler to a 0-0 stalemate Sunday afternoon. It was the second consecutive draw for the Patriots.

Sophomore Kristina Kinner (pictured above left) scored twice in the second-half barrage while senior Renee Collini (pictured above right) punched in a goal and assisted on two others. The eight goals were twice what the Comets had scored in their first five games this season.

UTD outshot Concordia a staggering, 52-0, with 24 shots on goal. Concordia goalkeeper Elizabeth Hall was busy making 16 saves. At the half, the Comets were only up 2-0, but got on the board again at the 61:50 mark and scored five of the goals in the next 20-minute span.

The Comets and Patriots went 110:00 without either team finding the back of the net in an extremely even game. Tyler did have five shots on goal that required saves from UTD keeper Andrea Jones, but the Comet defensive line kept the Patriots at bay most of the evening. Lauren Huffman had a pair of shots on goal for UTD before leaving with an injury.
