Cowgirls Slip Past Comets Again

UTD Plays Nationally-Ranked Hardin-Simmons Tough, But Falls 1-0

mugRICHARDSON, TX - Technically, the UTD women's soccer team has still not given up an opponent goal seven games into the 2007 American Southwest Conference season. Unfortunately for the Comets Thursday, though, the 16th-ranked Hardin-Simmons Cowgirls got a 1-0 victory out of another tough battle between these two teams when a corner kick with just :27 seconds left before the half was knocked out of goalkeeper Andrea Jones' hands by a falling Kelli Jackson.

UTD (6-4-3, 4-1-1) then took out its frustrations on Saturday with a 9-0 win over McMurry - its eighth shutout of the season. Caitlin Perduce (pictured) scored a hat trick for the Comets.

The "own goal" off Jackson put the Comets in a 1-0 hole they could not get out of against the physical Cowgirls and HSU escaped with another 1-goal win over the Comets - their eighth in the last nine meetings (including three straight ASC conference championship games).

The Comets still played the Cowgirls (10-1-0, 7-0-0) tight, equaling the ASC power in shots during the match, but UTD forced HSU goalkeeper Christi Carr to make four saves while Jones was only challenged one other time.

UTD was not quite a accomodating to their Saturday guests, pounding winless McMurry with 26 shots and a nine-goal outing. Perdue scored the first Comet goal just 4:52 into the match, then added a second and third goal at the 15:00 and 64:51 marks. Kristina Kinner, the Comets' points leader, added a goal and an assist to her totals. The Comet defense did not allow a single McMurry shot.
