Stingy Comets Rack Up 2 More ASC Wins
UTD Now Has 10 Shutouts In Last 11 Games, Moves Into Second
BROWNWOOD/BELTON, TX - The UTD women's soccer team continued its defensive dominance this weekend, picking up a pair of American Southwest Conference wins and moving into second place in the ASC regular-season standings.
UTD, now 8-4-3, 7-1-1, shut down Howard Payne Friday, 4-0; then got a 2-0 win to pass the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the standings on Saturday. In another important ASC matchup, Texas Lutheran and UT-Tyler played to a 1-1 tie, dropping TLU into a second-place tie with the Comets. The team that finishes second in the standings qualifies for a first-round bye in the post-season ASC Championship Tournament.
The two shutout wins were UTD's 9th and 10th in their last 11 games.
Sophomores Caitlin Perdue (pictured above) and Kristina Kinner (pictured right) paced the UTD offensive attack. Perdue had a pair of goals in the win over HPU, then assisted Kinner on a goal in the UMHB game, her second in two days.
UTD took a 1-0 lead into halftime against HPU when Perdue got on the board just 12:08 in. Perdue wasted no time expanding the league, scoring :46 seconds into the second period. Kinner scored off a corner kick shortly thereafter and Kelli Jackson added her second goal of the season for the final tally. HPU BOXSCORE
