UT-Tyler Edges Comets In ASC Semis
Only Second Goal in Last 16 Games Ends Season For Comets
ABILENE, TX - The UTD women's soccer team's American Southwest Conference shutout streak came to an end Saturday along with the Comets' run in the 2007 ASC Championship Tournament as UT-Tyler edged the Comets, 1-0, in a frustrating defensive match at Hardin-Simmons University's field.
UT-Tyler advances to meet the host Cowgirls for the ASC title Sunday at 1 pm.
The Patriots (13-3-3) got the only goal they would need just before halftime in a scramble in front of the net while UTD (12-5-3) failed to convert any offensive chance during the game.
The Comets and Patriots each were limited to just four shots on goal while Tyler built a slim, 11-7, advantage in total shots. UTD had a couple of shots that hit the crossbar and post, but nothing got past UTT goalkeeper Sam Fraser. The Comets had a 7-2 advantage in corner kicks, but could not knock anything home.
The 1-0 loss ended UTD's seven-game losing streak and the goal was only the second the Comet had surrendered in its last 16 games of the season. BOXSCORE
