UTD Shortstop Wins All-Region Honors;
Four Other Comets On All-ASC Team
RICHARDSON, TX - UTD senior shortstop Amber Griffin (pictured) has been named to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) First-Team All-West Region team, and was one of two members of the UTD softball team to win first-team American Southwest Conference All-East Division honors as part of the annual post-season awards for baseball and softball announced this week. In addition to Griffin, junior designated player Carter Ryan won first-team All-ASC East Division recognition, and was named to the NFCA All-West Region Second Team for the second year in a row. RICHARDSON, TX - Twenty-four student-athletes from six spring sports teams have been named Academic All-Conference by the American Southwest Conference. STORY

Comets End Season w/One Win at MC
CLINTON, MS - The UTD softball team finished off a disappointing 12-27 season Saturday, dropping three of four games at Mississippi College in their final road series of the year. UTD did manage a win in the second game of a Friday doubleheader, defeating the Choctaws, 12-9. The Comets lost the opener, 7-3; then fell twice on Saturday, 10-8 and 8-1. Senior Amber Griffin (pictured) finished off a record-setting UTD career by going 8-for-16 to cap off the season hitting an alltime school record of .474. STORY

Comets Hope To Bounce
Back With Experience
The UTD softball team opens its 2008 season this weekend, eager to forget about last year's disappointing 16-23 campaign. But Head Coach Kim Sotomayor (pictured) believes that the number of young players who gained valuable experience in 2007, combined with a a handful of top-notch returning veterans, will help return UTD to its winning ways in 2008. The UTD softball team has been picked to finish fifth in the 2008 American Southwest Conference East Division race in the ASC East Pre-Season Poll. STORY

Comets Get Two On All-Divisional Team
RICHARDSON, TX - Junior outfielder Kate Lightfield and sophomore designated player Carter Ryan were named to the second team All-American Southwest Conference East Division squad. Five other UTD players - senior Andrina Arenas, juniors Amber Griffin and Lyndsi Ayers, and freshmen Tawni Ichimura and Dawn Wiedeman - were selected to the East Division honorable mention team. The young Comets finished the season with a 16-23 record. 2007 SOFTBALL NEWS
