Herrera is hoping to bounce back after a pre-season ankle injury wiped out her senior season and earned her an extra year of eligibility through medical hardship. The Comets need her to return to the dominating form she had in the circle in her first three years. Herrera was the ASC East Division Freshman of the Year in 2003, when she finished 11-10 with a 2.24 ERA and 137 strikeouts. As a sophomore, Herrera put up a 6-5 record with a 2.89 ERA and then posted a 6-4 record and 2.31 ERA in 2005, winning first-team All-ASC East Division honors. In the past, Herrera has also been a big contributor at the plate, but may be hampered this season by limited mobility still associated with the injury. Herrera hit .290 and .215 in limited plate appearances her first two seasons, but was as significant part of the offense in 2005 with a career-high .321 average, six extra-base hits and 11 RBI.
