University
of Texas at Dallas athletes enjoy the use of some of the
finest facilities in NCAA Division III.
It all
begins with the UTD Activity Center, a multi-million dollar facility
that was completed in 1999. The Activity Center includes a 3200-seat
multi-purpose gymanasium – home to the UTD men's and women's
basketball teams, as well as the Comets volleyball team. The building
also houses a 4000 sq. ft. fitness area/weight room, an auxiliary
gym, a 25-yard indoor pool, racquetball/ squash courts and locker
room and training facilities for the entire athletic program. The
UTD Athletics Department also has its offices in the Activitiy Center.
Although
the building is just a few years old, the Activity Center has already had further renovation and improvment. Additional office space
and locker rooms were added for the fast-growing Athletic Department.
The weight room/fitness area was enlarged at the same time in 2005.
In addition to serving as the home court for the UTD basketball and
volleyball teams, the Activity Center Gym is also the site for various
other campus events, classes and other activities. The
gymnasium can accomodate three full-size basketball courts (with the
seating pulled back) and is continually in use for events like intramurals,
youth sports camps and major campus events.
UTD also has some of the finest soccer facilities around, including
the lighted UTD Soccer Field, home to the Comets' men's and women's
championship soccer teams. The field has already hosted two American
Southwest Conference Championship Tournaments since UTD joined the
conference. There are also several other full-size soccer fields that
are in constant use by local teams, including the professional Dallas
Burn Soccer Club.
The
Comets' baseball and softball teams are continually making improvements
to their on-campus facilities. Since the programs began in 2002, dugouts
and extra seating has been added. And, both teams win rave reviews
from throughout the conference for having two of the better playing
surfaces around the league.
UTD is constantly looking for ways to upgrade its facilities in order
to create a first-class atmosphere for our student-athletes and their
fans.
