Larry Gardner, Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletics
Director for Student Affairs, brings a wealth of high-profile experience
from a career in athletic training and rehabilitation that dates back
more than 40 years.
Gardner previously worked as Head Athletic Trainer for both the Dallas
Cowboys (1965-73) and the Miami Dolphins (1973-1974) of the National
Football League - and owns Super Bowl World Championship rings from
both the 1971 Cowboys and 1973 Dolphins. He also worked as an Athletic
Trainer at both the University of California-Berkeley (1962-1964) and
Stanford University (1964-1965).
Beginning in 1974, Gardner put his rehabilitation skills to work at
several local clinics – Sports Medicine Clinic of North Texas
(1974-1990), the Tom Landry Center/Baylor Sports Rehabilitation Center
(1990-1994) and NovaCare Outpatient Rehabilitation Division (1994-1999).
Garnder earned his BS degree from McNeese State University in Lake Charles,
LA in 1961 and became certified as a Physical Therapist in 1962 at the
Hermann Hospital School of Physical Therapy in Houston, Texas.
He has served on the Board of Directors with the National Athletic Trainers'
Association and was President of the Southwest Athletic Trainers' Association
in 1996. He worked at both the 1994 World Cup competition in Dallas,
and the 1988 Olympic Games in Seoul, Korea; and also worked extensively
at professional rodeo and motorsports venues.
