Brandon Rains joined the UTD coaching staff as an assistant baseball coach in 2002 after beginning his coaching career at the University of St. Mary, an NAIA school in Leavenworth, Kansas and is entering his sixth season with the Comets. He also coaches the UTD men's cross country team, and had one of his runners qualify for the NCAA Division III regional meet in his first season.

He coached football and baseball at USM in 2000-01, before becoming head baseball coach in 2001-02.

A native of Rotan, Texas, Rains earned a BS degree in exercise science from West Texas A&M in Canyon, Texas in 1999.
