Unrue, joined
the UT-Dallas staff in November 2003 as the school's first fulltime
Sports Information Director, responsible for promoting and publicizing the school's athletic
programs and its student-athletes. In addition to overseeing the statistical
operations at all home athletic events, he is responsible for the design/production
of all departmental publications and the design/maintenance of the UTD
athletics website. Unrue was promoted to Assistant AD/Media Relations in September 2006.
A native of Abilene, TX, Unrue has been in the sports management/marketing
business for almost 20 years. He began his career as a sports writer
for the ABILENE REPORTER-NEWS, and was the SID and Asst. Director of
Public Relations at McMurry University from 1981-1985. He also served
as McMurry's interim SID from September 2002-March 2003.
After spending 10 years running his own advertising/marketing business,
Unrue joined the Texas-Louisiana Professional Baseball League as an
Assistant General Manager of the Abilene Prairie Dogs, and the league's
Director of Communications. In addition to his work for UTD, Unrue does
freelance work for the FORT WORTH STAR-TELEGRAM, and serves as the Official
Scorer for the Fort Worth Cats professional baseball club.
Unrue earned his BS degree in journalism and speech communications from
McMurry University in 1980. He has also completed several post-graduate
courses on advertising/marketing, publications design and website design
and management.
