Wetz Leads Five Players on ASC East Division Squad, Sanders Coach of Year

RICHARDSON, TX - Freshman outside hitter Amber Wetz (pictured near right) became UTD's fourth consecutive ASC East Division Newcomer of the Year while also earning first-team All-East Division honors in the ASC post-season awards. UTD Coach Marci Sanders (far right) was named the East Division Coach of the Year after guiding her team to a 21-10 record. COMETS SEASON ENDS IN ASC TOURNAMENT SEMIFINALS
The UTD volleyball team won its first outright American Southwest Conference East Division title and hosted the 2007 ASC Championship Tournament Nov. 2-3 in the UTD Activity Center. Unfortunately, the Comets were denied to opportunity to play in the finals of their own tournament, falling in tough five-game match to eventual champion Texas Lutheran University in the semifinals. ETBU RALLIES PAST UTD IN BATTLE FOR EAST LEAD
In a match for the early ASC East Division lead, East Texas Baptist rallied from a 2-0 deficit to knock off the UTD volleyball team for the seventh consecutive time Saturday night. UTD had rallied to to take the first two games of the match, but ETBU came back from behind to win the match 26-30, 29-31, 30-28, 30-27 and 17-15. The loss broke a five-game win streak for the Comets, which included a 30-15, 30-17, 30-24 win Friday night over Mississippi College. Stephanie Waller had double-figure kills in both matches. STORY

UTD OPENS ASC WITH PAIR OF ROAD WINS
The UTD volleyball team opened its 2007 American Southwest Conference schedule with a pair of 3-1 victories. UTD defeated the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Saturday, 30-26, 23-30, 30-19 and 30-26. Tuesday night, UTD (8-2 overall) did it again with a 30-15, 25-30, 30-21, 30-15 road win at the University of Texas at Tyler. STORY

COMETS WIN 3 OF 4 AT TOUGH EMORY TOURNAMENT
The won three of four matches - including an upset of nationally-ranked Rhodes - at the tough Emory University Tournament. UTD whipped #13th-ranked Rhodes College in its opener, then dropped the nightcap to #5 Emory in three games. UTD then improved to 6-2 on the season by rebounding from two games down to beat Averette (VA), 3-2; then topping Oglethorpe (GA) in three games. Comets Open 3-1 At Own Tourney
The Comets charged out to a 3-1 start to the season after hosting the first annual UTD Gilbert Memorial Tournament this weekend. The young Comets got their feet wet in a 1-3 loss to nationally-ranked Southwestern in the opener, but rebounded by knocking off defending ASC champion Hardin-Simmons, 3-0. Irish Pre-Season Player of the Year; Comets Co-Favorites in ASC East

Rebuilt Comets May Be Even Stronger
RICHARDSON, TX - The UTD volleyball team finished last season with a remarkable 24-7 record and fought their way all the way to the championship match of the American Southwest Conference post-season tournament. This year, despite the loss of five key players off that team, Coach Marci Sanders believes her roster has all the talent and depth the Comets will need to make another strong run in 2007.
