Seaman, a senior from Mansfield, Texas, was selected for the honor in a vote by the Directors of Athletics from the ASC's 15 member institutions. She won the  2009 ASC award along with Ty Palmer, a football player at Texas Lutheran University.

The Fred Jacoby Sportsmanship Award, named in honor of the ASC's first commissioner, honors a male and female student-athlete who best displays the attributes of sportsmanship, leadership, citizenship and academic integrity in their athletic, academic and life pursuits. To become a nominee on the conference-wide ballot, a student-athlete must win the ASC Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year award in their respective sport. This is the 10th year the ASC has presented the award.

Seaman was named the 2008 ASC Volleyball Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year in the fall.

"Krissy has proven to be the ideal student-athlete," UTD head volleyball coach Marci Sanders stated in her nomination. ”She  has served as our team captain and is know as the 'team mom.' Krissy is very respectful to teammates, staff, opponents and officials.”

Seaman came to UTD as a freshman in 2005 and won second-team All-ASC East Division honors in her first season. She has won UTD’s Comet Award each of the last four seasons for her positive attitude, and was a key contributor in helping the Comets win their first ASC title in 2008. A member of the UTD honors program, Seaman was named ASC Academic All-Conference three times and was twice recognized as a UTD Distinguished Scholar-Athlete.

Seaman was also very active on campus, serving as the volleyball team’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee representative and as a UTD Student Ambassador. Seaman earned her degree and teaching certification in four years, and has been hired to teach math at Richardson High School in the Richardson Independent School District beginning in Fall 2009.
