Teams Present MVP, Comet Awards To Top Performers
RICHARDSON, TX (04.15.09) – UT Dallas basketball players Ernie Lowery and Chelsea Edwards were anounced as the UT Dallas Male and Female Student-Athletes of the Year at the annual end-of-year Athletic Department Banquet.

Lowery and Edwards were also among select student-athletes in all 13 UTD intercollegiate sports introduced as Most Valuable Players for their teams. Comet coaches also presented a number of other awards, including a Comet Award for the most spirited members of their 2008-09 team, at the informal dinner held inside the UTD Activity Center gymnasium on April 15.

>>Lowery, a senior from Spring, was the co-winner of the Most Valuable Player award on the UTD men's basketball team that advanced all the way to the "Elite 8" of the NCAA Division III national playoffs. He was part of the American Southwest Conference All-East Division team the last two seasons  and was a three-time Academic All-Conference Player. In 2009, he was selected first-team all-district in the national Academic All-America voting.

>>Edwards, the MVP on the women's basketball team that broke the 20-win barrier for the first time this season, is believed the first junior to win the Female Student-Athlete of the Year honor. in her third season, Edwards became UTD's all-time women's basketball scoring leader, leading the team in scoring two of the last three seasons. A two-time ASC All-East Division selection, she has also been part of the ASC East All-Defense team each of the last three years. A multiple winner of ASC Academic All-Conference honors, Edwards plans to finish her undergradute this spring, but return to the team as a graduate student next fall.

Other finalists for the Male Student-Athlete of the Year award were Jared Smith (baseball), Kevin White (men's soccer) and Temaine Wright (men's basketball). The women finalists included Brittany Fowler (cross country/volleyball), Amanda Kallus (women's soccer) and Krissy Seaman (volleyball). The winners were selected in voting by coaches and staff members in the UTD Athletic Department.
