CLAREMONT, CA (05.10.13) -
Coming off the program's first-ever American Southwest Conference Championship, the UT Dallas men's tennis team had its first trip to the NCAA Division III National Championships come to a quick end after a 5-0 loss to No. 13-ranked Redlands in the first round.

The No. 28-ranked Comets (now 14-5) fell behind 3-0 after dropping all three doubles matches before suffering a pair of straight-set defeats in singles to bring the duel to a quick halt.

Redlands took a quick 1-0 lead with a decisive win at No. 2 doubles as Comets Byron Cole and Bryan Leib fell to Nick Cummings/Connor Hyde, 8-1. The UTD tandem of Dennis Roy and Ian Lucio battled at No. 3 doubles before eventually falling 9-7 to UR's Max Licona/Teddy Jones. At No. 1 doubles, Redlands completed the doubles sweep with an 8-5 loss by Casey Clark and Dustin Foster to Gram Leahy/Patrick Lipscomb.

The Comets then dropped opening sets in five of six singles matches before Redlands wrapped up the victory with wins at No. 1 and No. 4. Leib was the first UTD singles player to drop his singles match, falling at No. 4, 6-1, 6-2, to Taylor Hunt. Foster was then handed a 6-3, 6-1, loss by Lipscomb to end the duel.

Roy was the lone Comet singles player to collect a first-set win, holding off Anish Nanda, 6-3, at No. 6. However, Roy was trailing Nanda, 4-3, in the second set when the match was halted. Foster (No. 2), Cole (No. 3) and Sander Kaasjager (No. 5) each dropped first sets. Leib was leading his second set, 5-3, when the match was halted. Foster and Kaasjager were both trailing in their second sets.
